Season 35 - Division 3 (out of 8)
Start of season thoughts:
This season is a voyage into the unknown having never played 3 of the teams (Southchurch Utd/Trampmere Rovers/FC Victory Park). The 2 other teams in the division we have the capability to beat, but the consistency will matter. My personal aim would be to stay comfortably in the division or maybe even promotion, in what could be the 1st season with a potential new gk (see news for any developments). The last 2 times we have been in division we have gained promotion, so who knows. Im going to be bold and predict the league finishes in order 1st Sharp Shooters, 2nd Southchurch Utd, 3rd One Half Wonders, 4th FC Victory Park, 5th Usual Suspects, 6th Trampmere Rovers. I bet I wont even be close.

Match 1
Squad: Daniel B, Fung C (gk), Paul M, James C, Tom N, Andy R
Goal Scorers: Tom N (1)
How the match went: This was a tough match which a point was deserved. Fung did well as a stand in keeper and made some important saves.
Match 2
Squad: Daniel B, Fung C (gk), Paul M, James C, Tom N, Matt E
Goal Scorers: None
How the match went: This was a tough match after 4 weeks off and we rose to the challenge. Both sides will think they could have won it, but a draw in reflection is fair.
Match 3
Squad: Daniel B, Fung C (gk), Paul M, James C, Tom N, Matt E
Goal Scorers:None
How the match went: This was a match in which both teams had chances and it could have gone either way. Overall it was a strong performance, despite the result.
Match 4
Squad: Daniel B, Fung C (gk), Paul M, Tom N, Matt E, Andy R, Pete
Goal Scorers: Pete (1)
How the match went: This was a tough match against a new side, but the loss was deserved. It was a disjointed display, but I hope to improve next time.
Match 5
Squad: Daniel B, Fung C (gk), Paul M, James C, Andy R, Matt E, Pete
Goal Scorers: None
How the match went: This was a sloppy performance and a fair result, Fung had no chance with any of the 3 goals conceded due to slack marking.
Match 6
Squad: Daniel B, Fung C (gk), Paul M, James C, Tom N, Andy R, Matt E
Goal Scorers: None
How the match went: This was our worst performance for years, no heart, no desire and confidence at an all time low. We need to win a match and quick.
Match 7
Squad: Daniel, Matt E (gk), Steve B, Pete, Paul B, Dave B
Goal Scorers: None
How the match went: This was a tough match considering our previous form. We played solidly and both sides has chances to win it, this was a good result.
Match 8
Squad: Daniel B, Fung C (gk), Paul M, James C, Matt E, Pete
Goal Scorers: None
How the match went: This was a poor match which words fail to describe. Demoralised is definitely one, we need to win a game, otherwise div 4 could be hard.
Match 9
Squad: Daniel B, Matt E (gk), Fung C, Paul M, James C, Andy R
Goal Scorers: Paul M (1 pen)
How the match went: This was a match that was closer than the score line suggests, with 2 of the 3 goals coming from penalties after back passes.
Match 10
Squad: Paul M, Matt E (gk), Fung, Andy R, Tom N, Steve B
Goal Scorers: Paul M (1 pen)
How the match went: This was our 1st victory since 3rd Nov 08 and what a relief. It was a hard fought game which was decided by a penalty.
End of season thoughts:
This voyage into the unknown, resulted in a 2nd successive campaign finishing bottom and only 1 win. My prediction for the final positions was well off the mark, as Trampmere Rovers went on to win the division, as opposed to my prediction of 6th. It was a tough season overall and not surprising with Spanton leaving, Andy becoming a first time father and having a mixture of Matt/Fung in goal. The hangover of last season mixed with the scenarios we faced made this tough and although I believe we had enough talent to stay up, the confidence and performances just weren't there when we needed them. We managed to get our only victory on the last day of the season, which will hopefully propel us straight into our 36th season as a team (that is quite impressive). On a sad note, this season is the last for both Paul M and Andy R as they have decided to call time on there 5/6-a-side career after nearly 6 years, which will be a sad loss. There are 2 potential targets in the pipeline to replace them, what this space.
