Season 13 - Division 2 (Prem, 1 & 2)

Start of season thoughts: The start of the new season is now here and it should be a promising season with the introduction of 4 new teams, Fruity Boys, On Line FM, 5-Alive and Spartans FC.
My only prediction for this season is a mid table finish, but depending on whether the new teams are a bunch of 16 yr olds or players who have played down at Pitch Invasion for years, we could finish anywhere.
The league will be far more open this season and I can't say I am disappointed that Global & Image have gone up. On an amusing note, the Pitch Invasion results predictor says that we will finish the season with 1 point, a draw against 5-Alive.

Match 1
How the match went: This match was a terrible start to the season and continued our recent slump in form.
The match started brightly with a nice finish from Tom after a quick throw to go 1-0 up. At this point I thought that we started well and things would continue, but it didnt happen. BOTN scored 3 goals in the remainder of the half to go into half time in the lead. One the goals was a nice turn and shot from Steve (my brother), which was a tad embarrassing, as I was supposed to be marking him.
In the 2nd half things werent much better with 2 goals from BOTN and a miss hit shot from me that trickled in the net. The sore point for me was the attitude of Billy who kept kicking the ball away when it was ours, he should have been sin binned for that or sent off.
Overall we lost this match due to lack of defending, shooting, passing, team spirit and the simple fact that BOTN deserved this victory. It takes a lot for me to say they deserved the victory, but they did. Well done BOTN!
Match 2
How the match went: This match was played in the snow and at the end of the match we all looked like snowmen.
The match started badly with us going 1-0 down, Tom then scored a quick goal straight from centre. We again went one goal down before Spanton produced a touch of magic to score only his 3rd ever goal. Again they took the lead, but for the 3rd time in a row we scored quickly (Tom again from centre) to pull it level.
This was the last time we were really in the game as they had at least a 2 goal lead for the rest of the match. This was a Sharp Shooters team low on confidence with our 3rd straight loss in a row, even John the co-ordinator wrote Sharp Shooters were a poor shadow of their usual self in player of the week for the Spartans forward.
Overall Spartans played well and their keeper made lots of good saves. Next week who knows, maybe we can win for the first time in weeks.
Match 3
How the match went: This was our 4th straight defeat in a row and was another blow to our confidence.
We started the match brightly with me scoring after a quick throw from Andy to take the lead. We then conceded a sloppy goal, which summed up the rest of the night. We again took the lead after Andy scored direct from centre. Then we conceded 4 more goals to go behind, but I pulled one back with a shot at the near post.
The 2nd half was complete dominance from the Fuity Boys, coupled with lots of lacklustre defending. I scored a consolation goal at the end to complete my hat-trick, but it was a bit late to try and pull it back (well you never know). The eventual score was 11-4.
Overall this was another poor performance and damaged our confidence even more. The only aim for this season is not to finish bottom and try and concede less goals. Next week is 5-a-live should we not go to the Southend v Bristol Rovers match.
Match 4
How the match went: My apologies about the delay in writing this match report, but I have been ill so I havent had a chance.
This match was forfeited and awarded to 5-Alive as most of the Sharp Shooters went to watch the LDV Vans area final (I had a ticket but didnt make it). The match was subsequently awarded to 5-Alive, although were now bottom it doesnt matter as Southend progressed to Cardiff.
All we have to do is win a match to not finish bottom this season.
Match 5
How the match went: Last nights match was a breath of fresh air and showed the Sharp Shooters working hard and playing like we can. As we didnt show up last week, the pressure of 7 games without a victory (apart from a walkover against Schenker) was building up on us.
The match started hard with both teams battling for everything, defending resolutely and generally fighting for every ball. This has been lacking in previous weeks and our hunger showed. The match was 0-0 at half time which is always a shock in 5-aside football.
In the 2nd half the match started in the same vain, but we quickly went 1-0 down. We equalised through Paul to draw it level and then he again put us in the lead. They scored a well worked 2nd goal, but from then on we were on top. There were flowing moves and nice touches from everyone. Paul eventually scored 4 and Andy scored 2, they scored a consolation goal at the end.
Overall this was an impressive win and showed what we can do when we play as a team and have the will to win. Everyone played well tonight and deserves a mention.
Match 6
How the match went: This match was a tough game and showed why we have still not been promoted.
The match started well with us quickly taking a 1-0 lead with a good strike from Andy. They equalised with a sloppy goal, but Tom scored after an accurate free kick to feet from me. At this point they were getting frustrated and we looked like we were getting on top. But surprise, surprise, our defending let us down again in the remainder of the half and we conceded 5 more goals.
The 2nd half started and although we didnt create much, it looked like we were getting into the match. It was tight in the first few minutes, but once one goal went in our defending deteriorated and we conceded 6 again.
Overall this was a pretty bad result and I dont think that the margin is a fair reflection of the game.
Match 7
How the match went: This was the last game of the season and determined whether we would finish bottom or higher. The pre match preparations were thrown into disarray, when both Dave and Tom pulled out on match day. Graham came in to make up a 6 man squad for his debut.
The match started tightly with Spanton our stand in keeper making some cracking saves in the first half. The defence was strong and we went in at half time still nil-nil.
The 2nd half started badly as we quickly conceded a goal, but we soon pulled one back after a strike from Andy. The 2nd half was more open than the 1st, with 4 more goals shared equally up until the last 5 minutes. Graham scored both of these and showed some good touches. At this point the match could have gone either way, but a lucky deflection of James Cs shin beat Spanton for their victory and promotion.
Overall this summed up our season and eventually meant we finish bottom as 5-Alive drew. Tonight Spanton played really well in goal and deserves credit for some of the saves he made. Onto a new season and new hopes and dreams.
End of season thoughts: At the start of this season I said that we could finish anywhere, but I didn't expect us to finish bottom. The results predictor said 1 point for the whole season and I disregarded this as rubbish, but it wasn't far off. The best match this season was our only victory against the Slimey's in which we worked hard and played as a team. Had we turned up against 5-Alive we would hopefully beaten them and could have finished in 6th. This season we played badly at times, but worked hard others. The damage was done in the early part of season,at least we can't get any lower, the only way is up.
