Season 12 - Division 2 (Prem, 1 & 2)

Start of season thoughts: Last season I made a prediction that we had a good chance of promotion, but unfortunately this didn't happen. I think this season will be a tough season and if we play consistently we always have a chance of getting promoted.
In the first few matches it will be a case of a patching a team together, with both Dave and Alex already out until after Christmas. The first 3 matches this season, which happen to be against our 3 hardest opponents, could make or break our season. Hopefully during this period we can pick up 6 out of the 9 points available, this would give us a stable platform to build on.

Match 1
How the match went: This was the first match of the season and we got of to a bad start. The match started without a proper keeper, so Steve played in goal for the first 3 minutes. Our new temporary keeper (Ricki) turned up after this and went straight into goal.
We quickly went 1-0 up after a goal from me, but we soon conceded 3 to go into half time behind. After the half time break it was a tight match, they scored a couple, whilst me and Steve also scored. The final result in this match was 5-3, yet the real issues with this match was the standard of refereeing.
He repeatedly made bad decisions, disallowed my perfectly good goal and also disallowed a goal from Paul close to the end of the game. This and further details have been sent to Pitch Invasion to look into. If this link is blue, click on it for full details, otherwise we are still awaiting a response.
Overall this was a bad start to the season which was not helped by the refereeing. Next week we have Chequers, who conceded 20 goals last week.
Match 2
How the match went: This was a match that we completely dominated and should have scored more. Tonight with the absence of James C, Dave & Alex we had Steve, Ricki and the long awaited debut of Spanton playing.
This entire match was complete dominance and from the whistle we were all over them. From my memory although we conceded 1 goal, they had 2 shots on target and the rest of them from in there own half and wide. We played with good passing movement and recorded our biggest win to date. I think these are the goals everyone scored, Paul (5), Andy (4), Me (Daniel 3), Steve (2) & Tom (2). The only downside to this performance was that we should have scored more.
Overall although we played well, the opposition were not up to standard and I feel sorry for their keeper as he made some very good saves. This is the sort of performance that breathes confidence into our promotion push.
Match 3
How the match went: This match was a poor match and bought us back down to earth after the Chequers result.
We started the match slowly and conceded 4 sloppy goals in the first half. There is not much not to say in the first period apart from we were outplayed. In the second half things brightened up a bit with Spanton scoring his first Sharp Shooters goal. The only downside was that we conceded 4 more sloppy goals.
Overall this was a match of two teams, we played badly and they played well. The margin between the two sides is not as great as the result would seem, but was probably fair on the night. Anyway, next week we play Back Of The Net FC and hopefully our push for promotion can begin.
Match 4
How the match went: This was a very close match and was a relief to win; otherwise I would not have been able to live with the gloating my brother would have done.
The first half was tight with BOTN scoring to go 1-0 up. Paul then scored a superb shot into the top corner, the keeper (my brother) didnt even move. BOTN should have scored more in the first half, put their apparent lack of shooting ability meant that we only went into half time at 1-1.
The second half started badly with us conceding 3 goals to go 4-1 down. We worked hard and with 6 minutes to go, we moved up a gear and scored 4 more goals. Paul got his 2nd, Andy beat 2 players to score 1 of his 2 and I scored a volley. This was a mixture of brilliance and a complete breakdown of the BOTN defence. Justice was done with Pauls 2nd goal a minute from time, it meant we took the lead for the first time in the match and won the game.
Overall this was a well deserved victory that we nicked at the end the game. We deserved this victory as we were the better team on the night, but to be fair it was cruel how we beat them. This could be the prompt for a promotion push.
Match 5
How the match went: This was a good match to watch with lots of entertainment.
I cant remember too much of the game because the goals just kept going in. I dont think that at any point we took the lead and were always between 1 & 3 goals behind. The match overall was a poor defensive display by both teams, with a total of 17 goals being conceded. The goal scorers for the SS were Me (1), Tom (3), James (1), Spanton (1), Paul (1) and Andy (1) I think. There was a decent strike from me in my own half and a nice little dribble and tight finish from Tom. The achievement of the night has to be James C who hasnt scored for the SS in a while, whilst Spanton scored his 2nd goal from us.
This match was a mediocre display that we can use to build on and showed that we have attacking potential. Anyway, onto next week against Schenker and hopefully secure at least a mid table finish.
Match 6
How the match went: We played a tough match tonight, not against Schenker as you would expect, but The Chequers.
Schenker officially pulled out of the league today, this give us with a walkover win & another 3 points. Our last game of the season is next week against Global, hopefully we can get something from it.
Match 7
How the match went: This was a tough match tonight against a team that had not dropped a point all season
All though they are a good team, they do not appear as good as the result would seem. The match started badly with them scoring a cheeky goal, after their striker lost his marker. The goals flew in after this and we ended up on a receiving end of a battering. The biggest problem during this match was our lack of defending (including me) and lack of confidence.
At half time we were about 4-1 down and the 2nd half was when we collapsed. The goals during this game were scored by Paul (from his own half), Me and Spanton. This was a match we deserved to lose as we played terrible.
Overall this was the end of another season and Im not sorry to see Global go up.
End of season thoughts: At the start of the season I wanted us finish higher than last season which we have achieved. Another aim was to pick up 6 points out of our first 3 games, which did not happen as we only won 1 of these matches. This season was a season which we were horribly inconsistent as normal and in my opinion we finished where we deserved to finish. We had a large win against Chequers and beat Back Of The Net FC in the last minute, which was absolutely brilliant.
I know we haven't gone up this season, but the more seasons we play the more chance we have of promotion, eventually we will get it together for 7 games in a row.
