Season 11 - Division 2 (Prem, 1 & 2)

Start of season thoughts:
I feel that this season will be a very productive one for the Sharp Shooters. With the club finishing 3rd for the last 2 seasons and just missing out on promotion, we have a stable platform to challenge for the championship.
The 2 teams relegated are Image, which is a pale shadow of their previous team and Chronic, who will almost certainly pull out. With these 2 and the remaining sides in the division, I feel a promotion push is a reasonable forecast.
Hopefully we will get promoted and be playing in division 1.

Match 1
How the match went: This match was a good match to start the season with, as it is a nice warm up.
This was not an exciting match and at half time it was still nil-nil. Still no one had scored seven minutes into the 2nd half, at this point I thought it might finish goalless. The first goal came and it went to Global, a pin point free kick past Dave. Global then scored again to make it 2-0 with 8 minutes to go. At this point I think we decided to play as a team, with Alex scoring a quick goal to get us back in it. Andy then scored after a pass from James to equalise and I scored low into the bottom corner to win the match (that doesnt happen too often).
Overall a game we rescued 3 points from, onto next week against The Chronic.
Match 2
How the match went: This was a disappointing result only 2 matchs into the season. I would just like to say that all though this sounds bitter, if we had played the Chronic team that drew last week to the Slimeys we would have won this. The Chronic have now recruited a couple of people from Atlantis and the old keeper from the Slimeys, they should definitely go up now.
Anyway to the match, we quickly went 2-0 down and pulled a goal back, at this point I thought we had a chance of coming back into it. Unfortunately this didnt happen and we went into half time 7-2 down. The 2nd half was better and we looked much tighter at the back, but by that time it was too late. For what its worth, Me, Andy, Tom & Paul/Alex scored the goals tonight.
Overall this was a poor match, its been a long time since we have been dominated like we were in the first half. On to next week and hopefully we can take our frustration out on RBS.
Match 3
How the match went: This was a terrible match that could cost us at the end of the season. The match kicked off at 6.40, despite my protests to pitch invasion that we couldnt play at that time and to make things interesting it lashed it down with rain.
Tonight Tom, Alex and James couldnt play, so Steve B and Jonny P came into replace them. The match started well with Paul scoring a goal in our first attack, yet the ref (Kerry) didnt see the goal and only counted it at the end of the match. The first half was a story of missed chances, we really should have scored and put some pressure on them. In the 2nd half we went 3-0 down and it was only then we started playing with goals coming from Paul, Andy and Jon. Alas they scored 2 themselves to make the match finish 5-4. Both Steve and Jon had good games for us tonight, well done to them.
Overall we didnt deserve to win the match, it was wet and our chances of promotion are dented. Anyway another three points against the BOTN boys next week.
Match 4
How the match went: This was a match which we should have won and is now our 3rd defeat in a row.
The match started badly with BOTN scoring a quick goal which caught Dave off guard. We then conceded 2 sloppy goals before John managed to pull one back after a miss hit shot from me.
In he 2nd half we came out fighting and scored a quick 2nd goal, at this point I could feel a comeback, but yet again we conceded to make it 4-2. Andy pulled another one back after a glorious pass by me, but to no avail we lost to BOTN.
Overall we should have won this due to possession, chances and hitting the woodwork twice. My brother was in goal tonight and he had a good game. Looking on the bright side, at least we cant get any lower this season
Match 5
How the match went: I am writing this report as a third party, as unfortunately I had to work late.
After speaking to the stand in captain, Andy, this result was a fair reflection of the match. We quickly went 1-0 up with 4 men, as Me and Alex didnt play and Tom was late. Steve made the team up to 5 men with his 2 whole minutes for us. After our initial goal we scored 3 more and at half time were 4-1. The goals came from Andy (2) and Paul (2).
In the 2nd half we were lucky not to concede more, as one of their shots rolled across our line after coming off the inside of the post, but it didnt go in.
Overall everyone played well and this was a fair result.
Match 6
How the match went: This was a one sided match and to date this is our biggest ever victory. Before the match started the ref asked if they could have a 5th unregistered player and I said no, as last week we had to start with 4 men.
The match started well and we completely dominated the game. They did mange to score 3 goals, but only because we were a ridiculous amount of goals up and our defending was sloppy. Anyway onto our goals and every outfield player managed to put the ball in the net. I think these are the goals people scored, but there were so many. Paul (6), Andy (3), Tom (3), Me (2), Tim (1) and James (1).
Anyway this was a good performance and I do feel sorry for the Schenker players that turned up. They were run all over the place and looked knackered. Onto next week against the Image and hopefully another 3 points.
Match 7
How the match went: This was a match which summed up our season. With both Dave and Alex injured, Martin and Ant came into replace them.
The match started badly by going 2-0 down and then Tom also injured himself. We hit back when Paul scored a quick well placed free kick We then conceded a few more, but only scored 2, one a lucky deflection and the other a good strike from Andy.
Overall Image are a very good side and I fancy them for promotion next season. This was a tough match that we deserved to lose and summed up or season perfectly. Hopefully next season we can play a bit better, thats if I can find 5 fit players. Onto next season.
End of season thoughts:
At the start of this season, I predicted that with the teams in the division and our previous league finishes, that we could challenge for the championship.
This season has not been our most successful and in fact is our worst finish since season 4. This season we even lost to Back of the Net FC, but all in all we didn't deserve to be much higher. This was a tight league and we should have gone up. Had we finished with the points we had in the previous 2 season, we would have been comfortably in 2nd place and celebrating promotion.
This was an opportunity missed, but what it does show is that continuity is important, as this season we have had trouble with injuries, people being away etc etc. This season has taught us that we are not unbeatable and hopefully next season we can start another 9 game winning streak and gain promotion.
