Season 9 - Division 2 (Prem, 1 & 2)

Start of season thoughts:
Last season was a bit of a let down, as I expected more from us, as did everybody.
This season I am not going to make any predictions, my only hope is that we beat last years points and our final position. If we can do that every season, eventually we will get better and eventually go up.
We need to improve our team work and that is the primary aim of the coming season.

Match 1
How the match went: This match was played with a virtually different side, as everyone apart from Alex & Tom was in Zante for 2 weeks.
The team was sorted out be Alex and this loss was due to a lack of keeper. Both goals of the night were scored by Alex, the 2nd apparently quite decent.
Match 2
How the match went: his match was played with a virtually different side, as everyone apart from Alex & Tom was in Zante for 2 weeks.
The team was sorted out be Alex and this was a decent win. We will all be back and playing next week, so Chronic beware.
Match 3
How the match went: This match was a very tight match, which we led for a long period of time. We went 1-0 up after a quick free kick from Paul and held the lead up until the end of the half, then conceded 2 goals.
In the 2nd half we played solidly and scored a good goal, when Ant turned and scored after receiving the ball from the corner. Chronic scored 2 more in the 2nd half and we had chances (hitting the bar twice), but just couldnt draw level. This was a tight match and I feel a draw would have been fair.
Overall a tight match against half a Chronic team & Joe from Atlantis. A draw would have been a fair result.
Match 4
How the match went: This match was a decent result, we have now equalled last seasons points and still have another 3 matches to play.
We started well enough and I opened the scoring after a sloppy pass from the keeper, we then conceded a goal, but James restored our lead by half time. We should have finished the first half having scored at least 6, as we were all other the opposition and created chance after chance.
The match continued this way in the 2nd half, with a goal from Alex and another from me after a pass from a quick free kick. We completely dominated the match, should have scored 10 and restricted there chances to a minimum. Although it was against a poor side, it was still a good performance.
Its nice to miss lots of chances and still win a game (for a change). Bring on Back Of The Net FC.
Match 5
How the match went: This match was a terrible match to watch, but it resulted in us keeping our first ever clean sheet (Well done Graham L).
The match started poorly with the big girls in green tights having there longest spell of possession, but they couldnt capitalise. After a quality first half strike from Tom, we went into the lead with a 1-0 lead.
In the 2nd half we pushed forward further, created lots of chances and scored 4 more to make the score 5-0. The goals were scored by Andy, Paul, Tom & Alex (I think). A special mention has to be made to my brother Steve, who managed to hit a shot miles out of the court after a lack of composure, it is probably still travelling now.
Anyway it was a good result against a poor team and was not pretty to watch, but who cares we won. I can now gloat about this until next time we play them.
Match 6
How the match went: This was a decent enough performance with our team missing two of its regular players. Dave had his priorities all wrong and watched Southend v West Ham, whilst James couldnt make it, as he had half his face hanging off. Graham and Jon stepped in for the night, to ensure we had a full squad.
The game started well and by half time we were 5-1 up, some of it to do with dubious keeping. They swapped keepers at half time, but he still couldnt stop us scoring 2 more. Tonight everyone had a good game, Andy scored a hat-trick (its been a very long time), Jon did well, everything bounced of Graham and generally we werent bad.
Overall they didnt have that many chances on goal and we deserved our victory. We are still in with a chance of promotion next week.
Match 7
How the match went: This was a crucial match, in which we could have finished in the top 2. We started the match knowing that we could get promoted, but results had to go our way.
Anyway, they opened the scoring with an amazing free kick into the top right hand corner, which probably should have been defended better. We then went on to score 3 more and at half time went in with a lead, the goals from Tom (Who was player of the week), Paul, Andy & Alex. In the 2nd half it was tougher, with more shots coming from the Chequers. Another goal from Andy though made it more comfortable. We played very defensive and the opposition didnt have much in the way of creativity. We finally put behind our dismal performance from the last time we met.
This was an OK performance, which ultimately meant we had every chance of finishing in the top 2. Other results went against us, but finishing with 15 points out of 21 is still a good achievement. Can anyone tell me how we did not get promoted with 15 points, anyway next season who knows.
End of season thoughts:
Before the start of the season the only thing I wanted was to beat last season's points. This was achieved by us finishing 3rd and getting 15 points, 1 point away from being promoted. We have done really well this season and if we had beaten either Tetrelis or the Chronic we would have been promoted. I think that looking at previous seasons, the team finishing in 3rd place has usually been promoted the following season, hopefully that is a lucky omen. Anyway, on to next season and another 7 weeks in the conference.
