 Season 8 - Division 2 (Prem, 1 & 2)

League Table Season 8

Start of season thoughts:
This is now our 8th season playing in Pitch Invasion and I feel that we are nearly ready to start realistically moving up the league. I feel that a good season will be finishing in the top 4 and a great season will be getting promoted.

With the two teams coming down I can see that we theoretically could be in the top half of the table, as RBS, Amigos, Marble Chequers and the new STR tigers being in their first season, could all be beaten, Windsor Sports have also dropped into the bottom division from the prem, so they are an unknown quantity, but going on last years results in a stronger league, we should still beat them. I think with the teams in the league that a realistic position would be 3rd. Consistency will be the key to a successful campaign.

Hopefully 3rd place can be achieved or even better.

Match 1
How the match went: This as a good start to the season, against what can only be described as a make shift team. The Amigos team tonight consisted of 3 of there own players and also 3 from Atlantis Rangers. All though these inclusions made their team better, we still won and played poorly.

We had quite a lot of the ball in this match and probably should have scored more. I scored 1, Tom 3 (he was amazed), Chips 1 (Own Goal), with Paul and Andy getting the over 7 between them. The only person that didnt score tonight was James, but he had a decent game in the middle and was unlucky not to score.

We only had 6 players tonight, as Alex decided he was going to watch the England match, but he assures me he will be back next week.

Overall, even though we played poorly, we still managed to win well. This is a good start to the season and hopefully we can keep it up for the next 6 games.

Match 2
How the match went: This was a bad performance, against what can only be described as our bogey team.

Although RBS never managed to win a match last season, we still havent beaten them and this was our 3rd attempt. We only had 6 players tonight, as James was playing 11 a side and Dave had a stomach ache. We didnt have a proper keeper on the night, so Fung stepped in and did well in goal.

We initially went 1-0 down to a sloppy goal and played out a tight first with a deficit. We quickly hit back in the 2nd half scoring 2 goals, one from Tom after I had set him up and a goal from myself, with what can only be described as extreme spin. We then conceded 2 goals and eventually lost the game.

This was a different team to last seasons squad, which were better than last seasons squad. Overall a poor game, but were still in 2nd.

Match 3
How the match went: This was a great game to watch for a neutral spectator, but not for the teams and supporting fans (Im talking about Jon).

We started the match by going 4-1 up and went into half time with a nice lead. The pick of the goals from the first half, was a cracking shot by myself into the top right hand corner of the goal, the keeper never moved. The 2nd half started badly as we collapsed and went 6-5 down, which in previous seasons would have defeated us. We fought back and brought the score level twice after that, to 6-6 and 7-7. I scored a scrappy goal and Andy managed to squeeze one in at the near post (but it wasnt a fluke), to ensure we got a point. There were decent performances by everyone.

Overall this was am interesting match and I feel a point was probably deserved after the contribution of both teams.

Match 4
How the match went: This was a match that turned on what can best be described, as a dubious decision.

We started the match well by going 1-0 up, after a quick free kick from Paul. The game was close, with both teams taking the lead and then losing it again. We went into half time at 3-3 and the match looked promising. During the first half we really should have scored more and Tom was unfortunate twice striking the frame of the goal.

Half way through the 2nd half, came the dubious decision. Dave was adjudged by the referee that he handled deliberately outside the area, therefore was sent off. I have spoken to Dave about this and he said it hit the top of his shoulder, but as I didnt see this clearly I cant really have a view. Anyway after that, Fung stepped up in goal (as James was in Basingstoke) and we lost an outfield player. When Dave was sent off we were only 5-4 down, after the dismissal we conceded 3 goals in 8 minutes, but in truth it could and should have been more.

Overall, it was wet, miserable, we played badly and a crucial decision went against us. Their really isnt anything positive I can think of to say.

Match 5
How the match went: This was a tight match which we started well, we went 2-0 up and looked tight at the back. We pinned them back and initially started frustrating them, tonight Paul McF played as Tom was doing overtime and he brought a different aspect to the team.

We did well up until early in the 2nd half, until we crumbled/collapsed to lose 8-4 with no fight back. The goals were scored by Andy (2), one from the penalty spot, Paul with a quick free kick and 1 other I cant remember.

Overall this was another disappointing and moral zapping result. Hopefully next week against The Chequers FC, we can play like we can do.

Match 6
How the match went: This was a match that we didnt play to the standard we know we can. Although we didnt play as badly in previous weeks, we still didnt perform. Subsequently we lost to a team who have NEVER won a match in 2 seasons, hopefully this will spur the team to perform in future weeks.

Today Alex was in London, so Steve B made his SS debut, he played reasonably well and did everything asked of him. To cut a long story short, we conceded 6 and Paul scored a scrappy goal after an assist by Steve.

There is a bright side, although we lost to the team at the bottom of the league, we didnt play as badly as in previous weeks. You never know, we may finish the season as we started, with a victory.

Match 7
How the match went: This match was a game we won because of team work.

We played well (ish) and started the scoring with an early penalty, we kept going, were tight at the back and created chances. Everyone played there part tonight, but a special mention needs to go to Ant & James. Ant making his debut tonight did well and deserved his goal, whilst James had a very solid game and was just in the way of everything.

This was a physical match, against a team that didnt like physical contact. Everyone scored tonight (except me & Dave, but I hit the post), with a couple of decent goals from Paul and Alex.

Overall a good end to a dismal season, we won the game because everyone worked together.

End of season thoughts:
Before the start of this season, I predicted that we would finish in the top half of the table and that hasn't happened.

We started the season well, with a decent win against weak opposition (Amigos) and finished the season with another victory (STM Tigers), but the reason why we failed to live up to my expectations was the mid season results. In the middle 5 matches, we picked up 1 sole point out of 15, losing with some poor performances to RBS & The Chequers FC.
