Season 7 - Division 2 (Prem, 1 & 2)

Start of season thoughts: I feel that this season will be another season of building and we should be aiming to finish in the top half of the table. I predict though that we will finish in 3rd or 4th place, if not higher.
Last season was a tight season, with only 3 points separating 4th and 8th. With the introduction of the Amigos and Estuary FC (should they not pull out), I can see an exciting season ahead.
I hope that we will challenge in the coming 7 weeks and hopefully contend for the top spot. Our inconsistency is my only concern, but hopefully we can put that behind us and go forward.

Match 1
How the match went: I am writing the first review of this season, in disgust at the quality of refereeing that was seen tonight. There was one glaring decision that stood out from the rest, in one instance they had a throw on, the rules state that it should be rolled on, underarm. The opposing player through the ball straight to the keeper and the referee allowed it, but when we had a throw that went a tiny bit of the ground, it was a foul. Please can someone explain to me how hard it is to become a ref????????
Anyway to tonights game, with James away doing things in the Lake District, Daves brother Paul stepped into replace him. The match overall was patchy and at one point we had a 3-1 lead, but another collapse like a house of cards, meant we went into half time losing.
We played well for parts of this match and goals from Alex and 2 from both Pauls meant that we made a game of this. This wasnt the worst performance I have ever seen and these have been relegated from the division above.
I think this will be another tight season and theres always next week.
Match 2
How the match went: This was a tight match, against a greatly improved team from last season. The team we played against played well at the back and had a decent keeper.
We started badly by conceding an early first goal and quickly went 2-0 down. We then had a stroke of luck, when one of there players played the ball straight into there own net for the goal. At half time we were close behind, only 4-2 down. I myself scored a cracking goal, by bending it in the bottom corner from the halfway line, the keeper looked stunned.
Although we created chances in the 2nd half, we never got back into it. These were more important points we should have picked up, but well done to Chronic for playing there part.
Match 3
How the match went: This was a match that we should have won, not because of our performance, but a shoddy piece of refereeing.
We started the match well, by going 1-0 up, after a wonderful goal from myself. All through the match we were going in the lead, being pulled back, then coming from behind We eventually finished the match 6 -6 . We had some good performances tonight, with Paul managing to score a hat-trick and the other 2 goals coming from Tom and Alex. We only had 6 players tonight, as Andy was apparently ill, he had man flu.
Rather than my usual bias about our performance, the referee did make a shocking decision. As we took our final shot on goal, the referee blew the final whistle. The shot was in mid flight and flew into the top corner, but the referee refused to count it, as the whistle had apparently gone. Had this counted we would have won the game. We argued with the referee, but he stood by the final whistle and cost us 2 points.
Overall it was a good game and although its not 3 points, it was still a great match.
Match 4
How the match went: This was a great result against a less than average team.
Tonight we showed that we could play as team and we showed why we should be placed higher in the league. This was a great performance by everyone and we completely outplayed them. We should have scored more than we did, but we still managed to score 9. Me, Paul, & Andy all scored a hat-trick tonight, with Andy scoring a great goal from an acute angle. I bent a lovely goal past the keeper & scored my first hat trick for a long time.
Overall we should have scored a lot more with our chances and this should have been our record result. This result will bring great confidence and hopefully we can still come 2nd. Well done to everyone that played.
Match 5
How the match went: This was another cracking result that people outside the Sharp Shooters didnt expect. The coordinator that runs the event was in shock that we had been beaten them, hopefully we can keep it up.
The match started well by us going 2 goals up, we then conceded 2 quick goals and eventually went into half time with a 5-2 lead. The 2nd Half we were more solid and scored 2 more goals without conceding. Paul scored a hat-trick, Alex got a couple and I scored a goal for a 4th week in a row (its all a bit strange to me).It could have been more, had Paul not embarrassingly missed a penalty, but it didnt matter in the end.
Everyone had a good game and things are looking up. With an almost guaranteed 3 points next week, as SBU appear to have pulled out, we will be in contention for promotion in the final week of the season. Depending on results and goal difference, we could be promoted to the first division.
Overall it was a good game and it was a good result.
Match 6
How the match went: This was another 3 points for the Sharp Shooters, which could be all important. It was slightly easier this week, as SBU have pulled out of the league, therefore us not having a competitive match. This result means that were still in with a chance of promotion, as any one of three teams can finish 2nd.
Overall, we didnt even have to break a sweat for this result, if only all our matches could be like that.
Match 7
How the match went: This was a disappointing match that we should have got something out of.
The match started tightly and although we had a majority of the play in the first half, we just didnt create the chances. We went in at half time with a 2-1 deficit and we had every hope we could pull it back. The second half was ok, but with more goals conceded we eventually lost the game 6-3. Me, James and Tom got the goals tonight and made the score look respectable.
I think we were suffering from the possibility of promotion, as we didnt play to the best of our ability. Although we played relatively well, we just didnt play as well as previous weeks
Anyway onwards to next season.
End of season thoughts: Before the start of this season, I predicted that we would finish in 3rd/4th place.
Although we missed out on finishing in the top half, it went down to the last game of the season. On the last day we could have got promoted, but ended up finishing in 5th. I am pleased with this season as although we finished in the bottom half, we occupied the top 4 spots going into the last game of the season and finished with a plus goal difference.
With the tightening at the back I am satisfied that we are progressing and hopefully next year will be our year.
